About the WWHA

Preserving the Real History of the American West

Since 2008, the Wild West History Association has brought together historians, writers, researchers, collectors, and enthusiasts who are passionate about fact-based Wild West history.

Our Story

Built on a Legacy of Western History

On January 1, 2008, the Wild West History Association was formed through the union of the National Association for Outlaw and Lawmen History, established in 1974, and the Western Outlaw-Lawman History Association, founded in 1990.

That merger created a single organization devoted to the serious study, preservation, and sharing of the people, places, and events that shaped the nineteenth-century American West.

Research

We champion fact-based research into every facet of Wild West history, from famous frontier figures to overlooked people, places, and events.

Education

Through publications, presentations, conferences, and video projects, we make serious history accessible to members and the broader public.

Preservation

We support the protection of historic sites, graves, records, and stories so future generations can better understand the real American West.
