WWHA Research/Writing Grants for 2010 11/14/2009

PURPOSE: To provide financial assistance to western history enthusiasts toward pursuing new research and subsequent writings concerning characters and events in keeping with the WWHA statement of focus and goals.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Information concerning 2010 and subsequent year grants will be announced by March 20.

ELIGIBILITY: Any WWHA member or active undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply for a WWHA Research / Writing Grant.

GRANT AWARD: For 2010 one WWHA Scholarship of $1000, one Phillip W. Steele Scholarships of $500 and one Rex Macbeth of $500 will be offered.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Grant applications may be obtained on or after May 1 of the application year by emailing sundance100@sbcglobal.net. The submission and potential grant process will be as follows:

1. Applications, and the required additional applicant information, must be received by the Grant Chairman by June 5, 2010.

2. Following review by the Grant Committee, recommendations concerning awards for the most qualified candidates will be presented to the WWHA Board of Directors at the annual meeting for selection. The decision of the WWHA Board of Directors shall be final.

3. Announcement regarding recipient of the grant will be made at the awards presentation ceremony during the WWHA Annual Roundup.

4. For the successful applicant, funding shall become available no later than September 1 of the grant award year.

5. A typewritten copy of the grantee’s report must be received by the WWHA Grant Chairman no later than May 1 of the ensuing year.

6. The written document developed through the research by the grantee, is expected to be worthy of publication for which the WWHA shall have the right of first refusal. The grantee is of course entitled to hold, the U. S. Copyright for the written materials.
